In Leipzig, Germany, New Year’s Eve is always a blockbuster event. The celebrations to close 2015 will be even more spectacular as 2015 was the 1000 year anniversary of the founding of the city.
Oper Leipzig will be the host venue for 2 events. The New Year’s Eve gala and the New Years Eve Party in the evening. Both will feature performances from operas, operettas, and musicals. After the performances, the audience will be invited to join the performers at a reception.
Since 1918, Leipzig has celebrated New Year’s Eve with a series of concerts. 2,800 people attended a concert at which Arthur Nikisc conducted Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. There will be classical music concerts at the Gewandhaus concert hall and an organ concert at St. Thomas Church of Leipzig.
Gala Dinners will take place at a number of locations. Hotel Fuerstenhof will present a program entitled “Royal Symphonies”. Guests will be treated to the music of famous musicians from Leipzig including Johann Sebastian Bach, Robert Schumann, and Richard Wagner.
Fireworks displays are a common feature of New Year’s Eve celebrations around the world. There will be a fireworks display at Augustusplatzf, the largest square in the Leipzig. One of the best vantage points from which to view fireworks is from the Panorama Tower. The restaurant will serve a 5-course meal.
In Leipzig, it’s fireworks on steroids as Fireworks are sold to the public. Residents set off their own fireworks on the streets and in parks throughout the day.
